Movie Mondays - Dorothea Lange

On Monday September 29, 2014, our Photo 1 class will watch our third installment of Dorothea Lange - Grab a Hunk of Lightening.

Two weeks ago, we watched the first 16 minutes. Last week, we watched the next 16 minutes. If you missed any of the "Movie Mondays," I expect that you will watch the videos during your own time. I would also encourage my students to watch the video a few more times outside of class.

Destitute pea pickers in California. Mother of seven children. Age thirty-two. Nipomo, California

The photo above is commonly referred to as "Migrant Mother." This picture is one of the most popular images in American history. Do you know when, where and how it was taken? What does this image say? What is the story?

Often when students (or other people) download images from the internet, there are restrictions about how the pictures are used.

Do you know restrictions for this famous photo?

Note: I updated this blog on 2/3/15 for a grammatical error.
